Strong words against Nudity by Abdul Jari

Human civilization can be dated back to hundred of thousands of years back. Human beings unlike animals are decent and cover their body (nude), private parts always.
The history of clothing, wearing of garment, dressing or what ever one will call it can be trace back to Prophet Adam and Hauwa (Eve) (AWS). As it is reported in many scriptures, Holy Books and religions, as reported in the Glorious Qur'an, when Allah  (SWT) created Eve for Prophet Adam (AS), after he has been praying to Allah to give him a partner, Allah the most High warned them that Satan is their enemy and they should not allow him to send them off Paradise ( Chapter 20 verse 117).  Then Allah the most high warned them not to go near one tree in Paradise. Satan then deceive them into going near it and eaten from it lives. He promise them of eternal existence and prosperity shall they (Adam and Eve) eat from it ( chapter 20 verse 120). Prior to them (Adam and Eve AS) eaten the leaves of the tree, their private parts are seen obvious and obviously seen. But after they cut the leave and started chewing them, their private parts became obvious to them. They started cutting the leaves to cover the body (chapter 20 verse 121). That was believe to be the history of garments and clothing.
Clothes and  garments are meant to cover our body and nudity. They are not meant to only make us look good or to impress others. They are meant to install in us the fear of God and respect. Indecent dressing and exposure is not for females alone, but males also. Sagging of clothes, wearing torn clothes etc are among the indecent dressing in males. Although females are notorious when it comes to indecent dressing and nude exposure unlike men. Most advertisement that shows clean body, fine looking clothes etc, you will find that it is females in the advert. Most part of their body is suppose to be covered as it is precious. Women are the most precious thing to men as Diamonds are the most precious and rare objects, if all Diamonds are hidden in the deep and lower part of the sand, then women should cover their body ten times like a Diamond. There is a saying which says " the way you dress, so you will be address". If you wear a decent clothing, then you will look as a decent person and you will be respected. If you do the other way, then so you will be address the other way round.
No religion and decent culture has ever allow indecent exposure. That is why you see muslims (Hausa, Yaruba, fulani Arabs etc) wearing long dresses that cover their whole body (Hijab for females) and Babba Riga, and a Turban in most of their dressing. Also, the dressing of the pastors, Bishops, and Nuns are decent in Christianity and in their places of worship.
It is sad, unfortunate, uncalled for, barbaric and in humane the way Nigerians are dressing now days especially on our streets, tertiary institutions, public place including the religious places and places of work. the unprecedented level of exposure of nakedness from children to adults is alarming and urgently need a redress by enacting a national dress code law that will check all indecent dressing, pornography, and all other immoral activities and acts in Nigeria. Indecent exposure, pornography and un necessary mixing of matured males and females has been identified to be the most encouraging factors causing adultery, fornication, rape and all other immoral acts in modern day societies.   The rate of indecent dressing is fast becoming a new way in which people dress. If one is to go to our tertiary institutions, he will be surprise and heart broken. He will see students that are been trained to be the future leaders of Nigeria dressing indecently, gambling and fornicating in their campuses. It is even obvious and a known fact that even some lectures are known to be having sex with their students in order to pass them examinations or to do them other favors. Indecent dressing and nude exposure is not limited to our tertiary institutions alone, even in our streets you see people  dressing badly and going around the way they like.  It is sad and unfortunate that even in many Shari'ah observing states, you will see indecent dressing in their streets. Sokoto and Katsina states are good (or let me say) examples, they are both Muslim majority states, and there is Islamic Shari'ah been practiced and observed in those two states. But unfortunately, in Sokoto state, in areas like Emir Yahaya road, Mabera district, Rungin Sambo and Kwannawa near Mami market, the way people are walking and exposing their nakedness is really unfortunate. Sokoto known as the center of Usman ibn Fodiyo Caliphate is now becoming a place where religion have been forsaken. Where is the Ulamah council, Hisbah in the States? What is the Sultan doing? The Sultan should try to maintain Islamic values within his closest vicinity, if he cannot do that, then how can he do that in order muslims states as the leader of all muslims in Nigeria and the 20th most influential in the world?. Some will argue that indecent dressing, gambling, and alcoholism in Kwannawa area of Sokoto state is because of the presence of Army barrack and Mami market. I disagree, who are the military? Who are they?  Are they not Nigerians? Are they not living in sokoto state where the law prohibit alcoholism and nude exposure?. They should be made to live under the law. If they violet the law, the should be punish for peace to reign. The military are known for their high handedness and they have become out laws, that should no longer be acceptable. Likewise in Katsina state, areas like Sabon layi, Kofar Kaura lay out, Fagachi quarter and Dotsin Safe are notorious for indecent dressing and immorality. In kofar kaura lay out, their are still known brothels, gambling centers  that are known and are still operating. Where is the Shari'ah in Katsina state? Why is the Emier of Katsina? Where is the state government? They should rise up and live up to expectations. Let them remember that protecting public morality is part of their responsibilities as leaders.
In serious morally upright countries like China, Saudi Arabia, Iran etc, there are national dress code laws that regulate indecent exposure - violating any of the dress code law attracts punishments. Nigeria need this as this will re awake our fight against immorality, in discipline and in humanity.
The need for a just, a moral and discipline society is imperative for the development of that society. In Nigeria, virtually all traditions and cultures are decent  and morality promoters. There can never be morality and discipline without decency, decency in clothing, interaction and social intercourse.   I call on the executive government, national assembly, religious leaders, traditional leaders and the people of Nigeria, we need a dress code law and a moral, disciplined, just, decent, and upright society -  where everything is working according to the law, according to right thinking and good practiced cultural values,  that will keep our country developing in peace and security to the lives of its citizenry.
 Long live morality
Long live the federal republic of Nigeria.
