The main problem the school is facing is still yet to be addressed. The issues of comfortable, affordable students accommodation whether in the campus or off campus is still a mirage. The issue of transport is still a major problem as the school is over 11 kilometers from the sokoto town as the university is located in Dundaye, Wammako local government.
But progress are been made especially accommodation as there are now a two sets of hostel for males and females separately completed by kano and Zamfara states government. The money gotten as a result of ASUU strike "ASUU money" is making impact in the hostel accommodation of the school. I couldn't believe it when I entered block H - a hostel I once lived when I was in 100 level. The hostel has been modernized with news fans as there was no ones when I was there, modern doors, windows etc. What surprises me most was the toilets. Before, students hardly enter the toilets. They either go to the bush as the university is located in the bush. The tiles in the toilets were broken, rotten and total traumatizing. Now it is looking very pleasant. The bath room use to be a place one cannot spend more than 2 minutes in. There are cracks in the upper part of the bathroom as water is coming from the bath room in the up stairs bathroom. In the morning, you will see line of 20 to 30 students waiting before the bathroom. There are just 5 bathrooms and 3 toilets per block. Each block is having more than 20 rooms. Each room is having more than 20 students - instead of the approved 8 as 12 others are illegal scautters. That is to say, at least over 400 student per block. At least, 80 student per bathroom and 125 student per 1 toilet. The facilities are over stretch. Students are also leaving in the Mosques, in the classes, in fact, some are even staying with all their things inside their cars and some bearly outside the corridors of the hostel like myself when I was in 300 level.
It is my hope that Nigerian students just like other students around the world like Egypt, Peru etc will rise and demand for better atmosphere and learning environment. It is greatly unfortunate that most graduates, over 1/3 of them will not find job immediately after graduating. They suffered to much to study and graduate only to stay unemployment. May God change Nigeria for the better. Amin
